The scientific name for the Lilly of the valley is majalis or maialis, which means of or belonging to May, and this delicate flower has been a favorite of royal brides through the ages. Janna Brown Design Co. planned & designed a spring wedding day inspired by the romance of these delicate spring blossoms with details to match the grandeur of the Mediterranean renaissance architecture at Vizcaya. This European-inspired editorial leaned heavily into the beauty and inspiring spaces at Vizcaya and the result was an old world storybook kind of romance with an Italian garden aesthetic.
Just as the delicate blossoms of the lily of the valley bring the light of spring across magnificent Italian cities of love, the bride’s ethereal Monique Lhuillier gown, wrapped with delicate lily of the valley appliqués, was absolutely luminous surrounded by the glow of the Florida sun.
For the receptions space, Janna placed long tables among Vizcaya’s iconic pavilion. The tablescapes had pooling linens in a neutral tone to compliment the painted stonework throughout the gardens, gold rimmed china, crystal glassware, and her signature oversized centerpieces brimming with an abundance of white and cream toned garden roses lined the tables. The warm tones of the stonework throughout the gardens came alive in the afternoon sun and the bride was radiant as the sunlight beamed down through the Spanish moss that danced overhead in the warm Miami breeze.
The Invitation suite gave guests a taste of the old world romance and lush gardens that awaited them at Vizcaya in the spring. Intricate hand drawn lily of the valley designs adorned the envelope liner and information card, while the main invitation suite consisted of romantic calligraphy with hand-drawn floral garlands and a custom gold peacock wax seal that was just like stumbling upon the real thing in the gardens at Vizcaya, a beautiful little surprise.
